MACEDONIAN ASSOCIATION “ILINDEN” - TIRANA CONDEMNS BULGARIAN PROVOCATIVE ALLEGATION THAT THE MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE AND THE MACEDONIAN MINORITY DO NOT EXIST
24 April, 2020
The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana condemns the latest provocation from the Bulgarian Government which claims that the Macedonian language and the Macedonian minority do not exist. Macedonians in Albania wholeheartedly reject the position of the Bulgarian Government, which is again spreading its unacceptable position that the Macedonian language and minority are non-existent. The request from the Bulgarian Government that Macedonia gives up on protecting the rights of the Macedonian minority and that it begins using the term “official language of the Republic of North Macedonia” in the EU instead of the term Macedonian language, is unacceptable, genocidal and constitutes a crime against humanity! The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana considers it a threatening move - although the European Council has made a decision that Macedonia can begin its accession talks and statements from individual member states don't alter this decision – given that the Government in Sofia will have the ability to veto the opening and closing of each of the 33 negotiating chapters. The Macedonian Association Ilinden” - Tirana does not doubt that Sofia will use this to advance its discriminatory and racist claims that the Macedonian language and the Macedonian minority do not exist, as seen in the statement appended to the final EU Council conclusion. This clearly states Sofia's intents and reveals that the EU will show solidarity in advancing the Bulgarian fascist push to deny the existence of the Macedonian nation!
Greece's public anti-Macedonian hysteria is already well-documented, but Bulgaria is also following suit by ramping up its campaign against Macedonians, including radio programs, newspaper articles and even movies on national TV all claiming to “prove” that the Macedonian nation, culture and language “do not exist”, that “Macedonian history is Bulgarian” and that there is “no Macedonian minority in Bulgaria”. Hate speech and personal insults are hurled at Macedonians – by Bulgarian politicians, journalists and public officials.
